1. Homework Assignment

Well, unfortunately, I am not sure if that promised interview with Michael Kusugak will become a reality. Not sure what happened, so I haven't got much to report, as of yet. Fingers crossed.

I will be going in for surgery tomorrow and will be absent from the blog scene for a short while. In the meantime, I'd like to leave you with a homework assignment.

I am putting out a challenge for you to read a book about an aboriginal culture. It doesn't have to be a children's book, but if it is, you can share it with your children. Then, if you feel ambitious, you can post a review (even a sentence or two) under the comments. Stuck for ideas? Choose one from the list of Inuit literature I have here, "Diamonnd's From the Tundra".

As for me, I will be reading "Across Time and Tundra" which is a great big beautiful book about the Inuvialuit culture- my mother-in-law's people. I am really excited about it because she knows almost everyone in the many, many pictures, and there is an awesome old photograph of her great-grandfather's family. Her great-grandfather founded Aklavik.

So, head off to the library and discover a gem from an exotic culture that may be right in your own backyard, or paerhaps on the other side of the world ...and don't forget to tell us about it.
