1. Midwest Charity Horse Show Comes to Springfield

I admit, I am not a horse woman, but today when I visited the Illinois State Fair Grounds to cover the ribbon cutting celebrating 75 years for the Midwest Charity Horse Show, I was reminded all over again why the fair grounds and this event is a big deal.  Dignitaries galore were at the ribbon cutting event, the Springfield Mayor, the Director of the Illinois Department of Agriculture, an Illinois Representative and the adorable Miss Illinois Horse Fair 2015 Alexandrea Hemberger from Auburn, Illinois.

My favorite aspect of the event, though wasn’t the event itself, but all of the hubbub going on around it.  Young men and women were decked to the nines preparing to show their horses.  Groomed horses stood at attention in stalls and other danced their routines in the streets between the beautiful old brick horse barns.  The Coliseum where the ribbon cutting itself took place is a beautiful structure reminding me of the quality that was used when building these original State Fair buildings so many years ago.

The Midwest Charity Horse Fair takes place starting June 14 – 18 and funds at this event go to Camp COCO a cancer camp for children.  Everything about the event has beauty to it, from the horses to the outpouring of funds for such a worthy cause.  For anyone with a love of horses, this is a premier event that includes a variety of brands.  For more information, log onto www.midwestcharity.com
