The word of the day is GENEROUS...
<!--[if gte mso 9]>
To be generous of one’s time and to pass along willingly one’s expertise to the next person coming up in the ranks is an imperative way of paying it forward. It’s important to remember we were all there at one time of being the newbie and feeling like a fish out of water. What a comfort it is for someone to receive your generosity with the simplest of statements, “you are doing just fine, keep up the great work.”
Not too long ago, my daughters and I played tourist in NYC and visited the Brooklyn Bridge and Little Italy. After enjoying a scrumptious lunch we headed across the street for dessert. The bakery was bustling with business and it was apparent one of the waiters was new and being trained. Luckily for him, his training came before the San Genaro Festival. The look of being overwhelmed was quite apparent and when we were leaving, I went to him and simply said, “You are doing great, don’t give up.” He responded, with an astonished thank you and we went about our day. Upon exiting the bakery, my daughter said, “Mom, that was so nice of you, you didn’t have to do that.” My reply, “always remember you will be the newbie at one time or another and the generous ‘at a boy’ can make or break your day.” Mom you should have seen him, when you turned to leave, he actually looked like he was standing taller.” Needless to say, without looking for anything in return, that statement from my daughter still makes my heart soar.
What do you do to be generous to those in your life or those that you meet briefly? Looking forward to hearing all about how generosity in your life is a ripple effect. Thanks for visiting!
