1. 4.5 / 5 stars from Kids App Reviews

There are several critical skills that children need to develop on the path to becoming proficient readers, and phonics is one of those competences.  Sounds for Fun, a new app from Rita Vanden Heuvel, will help your child hone his early reading skills through an age-appropriate phonics program.  The app is divided into specific letters and letter sounds, and each letter has a catchy song, an action word with accompanying animation, a sound recognition game, and letter-printing exercise to reinforce the link between the letter and its sound.  Once he’s completed the exercises for three individual letters, there’s a review section to give him more practice with those letters.  After he’s completed all six letters within the app, he’s shown all six letters and asked to choose the beginning sound that six different pictures illustrate.  Though the majority of the app focuses on beginning letters/sounds, there is also a bonus section that tests his comprehension of ending sounds.  Developed with proven early reading techniques in mind, parents can depend on Sounds for Fun to boost their child’s confidence and capabilities when it comes to phonics.
