Character Descriptions
of the Top Ten Denizens of Terpsichore in Love
He's been a loser in love until he meets Terpsichore (Terri). Being with her gives him a newly found
confidence. While it impresses most of her sisters, Calliope despises him for her own personal reasons.
Terri (Terpsichore) – Blonde, beautiful, impetuous, outgoing, and selfish. She is the Muse assigned to
inspire both dancers and choreographers. After falling in love with Dan, she finds factions in her own
family, as well as the evil forces headed by Lucifer, conspiring to keep them apart.
Calliope – Raven-haired, beautiful, irascible, sarcastic, and loyal. She is the Muse traditionally assigned to writers and poets. Due to a perceived lack of respect from Dan in the past, she has turned her back on him. Has a tragic incident in her past which has made her the black sheep of her celestial family. Despite being constantly courted to join the dark underworld and become a Siren, she has a good heart but shows it only as a last resort.
Father - Irascible and cold to his family. Father is a God-like individual who has grown to hate mankind as much as he hates losing to Lucifer in their chess games. Protective of the Muses to a vengeful fault, He has emotionally distanced himself from everyone in his family, with the exception of his favorite daughter, Clio.
Lucifer - Ruggedly handsome, charming, conniving, and openly gay, he is Satan, the Prince of Darkness, etc, etc. After learning about Dan's powers, he seeks to have Dan join the forces of darkness by any means necessary. By doing so, he hopes to bring on a delayed final battle with Heaven. Hoping to reclaim it after his exile and to humiliate Father, who forced him to leave in the first place.
Euterpe – Black, beautiful, and cheerfully irritating to a fault, She is the Muse traditionally assigned to inspire Musicians. Straddling the line between being ditzy and sweet, she prefers to be called Butterfly because she hates her real name with a passion. She lives with Terpsichore and Calliope, and is usually the peacemaker in her two sisters various arguments. Despite her carefree and happy exterior, she harbors a deep hatred for her Father, who killed her last lover with heavenly sent lightning bolts several centuries ago.
Clio – The unofficial leader of the Muses and Father's adviser. Has red hair, and Nordic features. She is the Muse traditionally assigned to inspire inventors and politicians. She is brassy, blunt and has a caustic brand of humor. She talks like an encyclopedia, and has a good relationship with most of the Muses, with the exception of Calliope.
Calypso – Raven-haired, beautiful, intelligent, and cruel. She is the de-facto leader of the Sirens and is level headed when on the job, but emotionally unstable in her own personal life. She has a eons old crush on Calliope, and an acidic relationship with her two sister Sirens.
Celestia – Auburn-haired, beautiful, witty, arrogant, and self-centered. She is the most sadistic of the Sirens. She has a bad history with Terpsichore dating back to the Renaissance. Her vicious temper keeps her in Lucifer's doghouse most of the time, but he realizes she's the most dangerously uncontrollable denizen of his satanic realm.
Melpomene (MeMe) – Raven-haired Latina, sultry, sweet, and oversexed. She is the Muse traditionally assigned to inspire artists and sculptors. She has a good relationship with all her sisters, especially Urania, but avoids taking charge during their disputes. She has also been cursed by Father with a voice that causes mortals and celestials alike to have intense sexual emotions and feelings when she speaks. Her family are the only exceptions so, in order to appear normal to mortal boyfriends, she has to pretend she's a mute.
BLURB
The nine traditional Greek Muses, who are now living on Earth, find their everyday lives disrupted by the appearance of a mysterious mortal who is developing powers beyond human capabilities. After Dan Gordon falls in love with Terpischore, he finds himself in the midst of a power struggle between the forces of Heaven and the denizens of Hades – with the winner claiming his heart and soul.
Bemused and Bedeviled takes you into the drama-filled lives of the nine sisters, headed up by the impetuous Terpischore, oversexed Melpomene, irascible Calliope, and the impossibly cheerful Euterpe. On the dark side, Lucifer and his three Sirens – the level-headed Calypso, wrathful Celestia, and the effervescent Chanteuse – deal with their own darker issues. The representatives of good and evil vie for Dan’s loyalty and allegiance, despite family issues that threaten to rip the very fabric of the universe apart.
