Hey all! I had an illustration published on the COVER of the Friend magazine this month. I’ve done a lot of magazine work, but this is my first cover so I’m excited about it.
I thought I’d show you the process behind painting. Enjoy!
This is the original idea sketch for this cover. The art director gave me some good feedback, such as reversing the girl and adding flowers.
Here is my sketch ready for painting.
The illustration was painted in Photoshop. I blocked in initial colors and gradually added more detail as I went along.
And here’s the finished cover without the type.
