I was super excited to be invited to participate in Mail Me Art this year. I saw the last book and thought it was such a brilliant idea - inviting artists to decorate envelopes and then mail them off into the wilderness of the postal system to hopefully emerge unscathed at the other end.
I was more than a little nervous and sweaty-palmed this morning when I handed over my envelope at the local post office. The girl at the counter didn't seem excited by my lovely zombies at all, she just stamped the envelope and put it into the international mail bin in one smooth, clerical motion then resumed her hands on the counter waiting position. Sigh. (But really, what was I expecting?)
I'm doubly nervous because I have used gouache, which is not exactly the most robust of paints. If it gets rained on... well let's just hope it's not raining in the UK when it arrives. But at the same time it has been wonderfully liberating to send off one of my favourite pieces of art for the year into the wilds without the usual packing and protection. Maybe some of my London friends can go and say hello to my little zombies when the exhibition is on later this year?
