Rain pattered down outside the circle of light and the air was cool and moist.
“Do you think the rain will stop by tomorrow?” She winced at the inane question, but anything was better than the charged silence between them.
Reece’s voice sounded huskier than usual when he replied. “It’s forecast to fine up later tonight, so tomorrow should be sunny.” He cleared his throat and stood up. “We should get some sleep—we need to set out early tomorrow to catch up with the others.”
Sleep? Who wants to sleep? She managed a jerky nod as she scrambled to her feet to help him pack away the remains of their meal.
As she zipped the bags shut, Reece reached down and stripped off his T-shirt, laying it over his pack.
“Wh-what are you doing?” Her heart nearly stopped as his hands dropped to the fly of his shorts. He looked at her in surprise. The impressive muscles of his chest and abdomen flexed as he moved.
Might need to rethink my murderous plans. Because damn! I could think of much better things to do with that body. Cate dragged her unwilling gaze away from all the mouth-watering, tanned skin revealed by the lantern’s glow.
“It will get cool during the night. I’m not going to risk catching a cold by sleeping in wet clothes.” With those words he shucked his shorts.
