1. What Inspires a person to write

You might wonder...What inspires a person to write? How do you know what to write about? Where should you begin?

Most writers write about things they know about, either by experience, or by watching the world around them. It might be that they are inspired one day by just watching a cat play with a ball of yarn, or a child trying to accomplish a task such as walking for the first time, or an elderly couple walking together, still appearing very much in love. Perhaps it is an object that inspires you ;  a beautiful painting, an abandoned building or a falling leaf.

What ever it is, take the idea and build around it. Select your characters, your setting, your plot.

What is it that inspires you to tell the story. Was it the energy and industriousness of the cat as it played with the rolling ball of yarn?

Was it the determined child who fell time and again yet continued to get up and try to walk?

Was it the gentle swirling motion of the leaf as it fell soundlessly to the ground?

I was inspired to write about my childhood, growing up in a three decker home with a large attic filled with old trunks. Hence my book The Trunk.

I'll include small samples of the book as we go along. Good night for now.
