Holy wow I’ve had a busy past several weeks.
1. Started homeschooling my 8 year old. We’ve had some good days, some bad. He’s a lot more calm and happy, but I am a lot morestressed and anxious. Oy.
2. Started a blog about homeschooling my 8-year-old. If I ever get around to regularly posting it’ll be the basis for a book deal, no?
3. Launched a blog about my small press’s upcoming book, Easy to Love but Hard to Raise: Real Parents, Challenging Kids, True Stories. Has accompanying facebook page. Going well. Exhausting. Not so much because of the launch, but because of homeschool-launch combo, AND add to that…
4. School visits! Very, very fun! I’ve gone to Horton Middle School’s 8th grade and will go to their 7th grade next week to talk ghost stories. The 8th grade was a fantastic audience and gave me excellent feedback for the stories I read. I really, really love doing school visits and I *so* want to do more of them. The visits reinvigorated me for these ghost stories – once they’re in book form they’ll be an excellent vehicle for getting into schools. I have 7 completed (or near completion)…only 6 more to go. I can do it! I’m probably going to start an imprint of DRT Press to publish them, although I might contact a few local publishers to see if they’re interested, first. Either way I’m thinking they’ll be out next spring. October would be ideal…but I don’t want to wait a full year and a half. I have a lot of planning to do for that book, which is great, but when to plan? Between reading easy readers with the 8 year old, organizing bloggers at the Easy to Love but… blog? Or doing the 90th load of laundry for the week? Methinks a mother’s helper may be needed soon.
5. And my lovely, hardworking husband has been working way too much. Way, way too much. Which puts the whole running-of-the-house thing on me.
6. Oh, and I know it’s only February, but here in central North Carolina it’s gardening time!! My asparagus and potatoes are sitting out, ready for planting, and I just got a persimmon tree that needs putting in the ground. I think that homeschooling will be taking a distinctly agricultural bent in the next couple of weeks.
This too shall pass.
