I just love this book and I want to go on and on, but it's really not a very long poem! I have already typed to you five pages of the first book! It's a wonderful book! and A wonderful series!
The list above were all the books by the original author, but a little research on Amazon.com shows that his grandson, John Bemelmans Marciano, has picked up where he left off! Creating more wonderful stories of Madeline! In the new series, still in rhyme, Madeline visits the United States of America.

The author relates a story, that I suspect is from her own childhood. The author, Ching Yeung Russell, grew up in mainland China and Hong Kong and wanted to be a writer from a very young age, just like the main character of the story, Yeung Ying.
It's hard to be a girl in China, because for generation after generation, boys have been considered the better, stronger, smarter sex. But Yeung Ying's mother knows that that isn't true, but that girls are equal to boys in many ways. Her parents work hard to make sure she has a good education. This is the story of Yeung Ying's early childhood, when she first fell in love with books and writing.
