You'll have to forgive my wicked excitement today because the first book in my GHOST HUNRESS series, THE AWAKENING, is available!!!!!! I've been waiting for this day for a long time and I can't begin to put into words how I feel. The reviews on Amazon are really favorable and the feedback has been amazing!
Thanks to my fellow Buzz Girls, we're going to be celebrating ghosts, inevitably, this week, with lots of giveaways, so be sure to spread the word and come back all week to visit us.
So many people have asked me, leading up to this release, if I believe in ghosts. I have to say that I never really thought about it. I definitely believe in angels, as I've had three experiences in my life with angels (another post for another day), but as far as running into a ghost, I just never thought about it...
...until I did think about it.
Through my research for the GHOST HUNTRESS, I have witnessed shadow people, full bodied apparitions, been touched, heard voices on digital recorders when no one was speaking, and I captured some amazing footage of a ball moving around on it's own. These things have made a believer out of me!
However, I think the most poignant touch with the other side occurred on my 12th birthday. My beloved border collie, Candy, was hit by a car and died on my 12th birthday. I remember Dad taking me out on the back steps and telling me...
"Mar, you're 12 years old now and that's really mature...so you can handle anything."
He then proceeded to tell me that Candy had passed away. It was the most heartbroken I had ever felt in my life. I went to bed that night, crying myself to sleep over the loss of my beautiful three year old puppy-girl.
(Sorry for the bad quality...the picture is 30 years old! But isn't she precious???)
Sometime during the night--I thought I was dreaming, but I know I was awake--I sat up in bed and looked to the door of my room. There, I saw Candy walk in. She crossed the room and sat at the edge of my bed. She didn't bark or anything, but somehow I knew that she was...okay. She jumped up on the bed, curled up at my feet and watched as I fell back asleep.
Okay, so maybe this sounds like no big deal. However...Candy NEVER had been in our house. She lived at our farm, which was about five miles away from our house. She had been in the back yard, but never actually inside the house.
I believe to this day that she came to me to say goodbye and to make sure I was okay. Call me crazy, but it's such a strong memory and so real to me that I just can't think of it any other way.
My heroine, Kendall Moorehead, experiences all sorts of paranormal activities in the GHOST HUNTRESS series that are based on other people's experiences. It's my hope that in reading the series, it will help people question what's next for us and give us comfort that we'll always be with the ones we love...even our pets...for'evah.
So...I ask you...do YOU believe in ghosts?
Leave a comment for me and you'll be entered in the first giveaway for GHOST HUNTRESS: THE AWAKENING. You may enter as many times as you'd like!!
Hugs,
Marley = )

I'm pleased to finally be able to announce a new book deal! Whooohoooo!!General/Non-Fiction: GHOST HUNTRESS YA series author Marley Gibson with star of truTV's HAUNTING EVIDENCE Patrick Burns's and KTLK FM's Darkness Radio host Dave Schrader's GHOST HUNTING: THE INS AND OUTS OF PARANORMAL INVESTIGATIONS, a look at the how-to's of proper and effective paranormal investigations, again to Julia Richardson at Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, by Deidre Knight at The Knight Agency (NA).
And check out the awesome cover!
This "how to" guide will be out in September and will be a companion to my GHOST HUNTRESS series. If you've ever wanted to know the ins and outs of proper ghost hunting...this is the book for you. It's available pre-order from Amazon.com!
I had a blast writing it and I hope the amateur ghost hunters and huntresses will pick it up and enjoy what they learn. It was fun writing a non-fic book and it was especially nice to get it done with two reknowned people in the paranormal field, Patrick Burns and Dave Schrader, who have been nothing but supportive of me since I got into ghost investigations.
Thanks for letting me share!

With the upcoming release of my new YA series, GHOST HUNTRESS, on May 4th, with the first book, THE AWAKENING, launching next Thursday at the GhoStock conference in Salem, MA, I'm also thrilled to share the cover of the second book, THE AWAKENING, which is now up on Amazon.com for pre-sale.
Check it out! I'm swooooooooooooning!!!
The cover designers (Ilovedust.com and Houghton Mifflin's graphic artist, Carole Chu) have really outdone themselves on this one. Look how fierce Kendall looks! Ready to take on any ghost that crosses her path.
Here's a blurb for the book:
Kendall and her ghost hunting team is the talk of Radisson, Georgia, but one person isn’t so pleased. Courtney Langdon doesn’t appreciate Kendall’s new popularity or her relationship with Jason, Courtney’s ex. So Courtney begins dabbling in the paranormal world. At first it’s all a game to draw attention away from Kendall. But Courtney doesn’t know what she’s getting into—or what wants in her. This is one game that’s about to turn deadly serious. And for more about Kendall and the ghost huntresses, check out www.ghosthuntress.com!
I have to say...I have been blessed by the Cover Gods with this series. They're working on the cover for the third book, THE REASON, as we speak and I can't wait to see what they come up with!!
And now...for a quick contest: Go to Amazon.com, pre-purchase THE GUIDANCE (release date September 7, 2009), and send me a copy of the order between now and next Wednesday (at marley.h.gibson (at) gmail.com), I will enter you to win an advanced copy of the first book, THE AWAKENING. Pretty cool, eh? I'll announce the winner next week.
And finally...MASSIVE CONGRATS to Tina and Tera Lynn for their Rita nominations. While I won't be in DC to cheer you on, I will be there in spirit! Get it...spirit...I write about ghosts...ahhh...nevermind... ;)

As I sit here next to the heater with yet another snow storm blowing through downtown Boston, I'm thinking of the year ahead of us and all the wonderful things in store. I can't help but get excited about what I'm looking forward to. Thought I'd share a few:
FEBRUARY: Writing retreat with a couple of friends, as well as a photo shoot and a ghost hunt in cold, cold Minnesota. I know...who goes to Minnesota in the dead of winter? My critique partner, Wendy Toliver's MISS MATCH is out in stores. Sooooo adorable. Pick up a copy!
MARCH: Pre-media blitz for my GHOST HUNTRESS series with ghost hunting events in Boston and New York City. Also, will be going to a conference in Gettysburg called Phenomenology 101. My friend, Jenn Echols' book GOING TOO FAR comes out this month, too...amazing book! Everyone buy it!
APRIL: Book launch party and presentation at GhoStock 7 in Salem, Massachusetts. It's going to be a blast!
MAY: GHOST HUNTRESS officially hits the shelves on May 4th. Lots of promo going on including trips to Louisville, Indianapolis, New York, and Columbus. Also, be sure to check out Diana Peterfreund's YA debut, RAMPANT, about killer unicorns and the virgin huntresses who are pre-destined to save the world from them.
JUNE: As I right now, I have nothing on the calendar for June, but hopefully the sun will be out, the pool open, and there will be some time for rest and relaxation before a busy fall schedule.
JULY: Can't wait to see all my writing friends in our nation's capital for Romance Writers of America Conference. I'll be signing GHOST HUNTRESS: THE AWAKENING there, as well.
AUGUST: Going to ParaCon 2009 for a book signing in Sarnia, Ontario, Canada and then later in the month, a camping trip in Washington state to go UFO hunting. Whoooo... Also, I'm told that GHOST HUNTRESS: THE GUIDANCE will be available for my book signings.
SEPTEMBER: Football season starts and my Crimson Tide returns to hopefully repeat their awesome Top 10 season of last year. Would love to visit the alma mater for a football game.
OCTOBER: This is going to be a crazy month! There's sure to be lots and lots of promotional trips for GHOST HUNTRESS: THE GUIDANCE, but also, my non-fiction book, CHRISTMAS MIRACLES, will be available in stores. Very excited about the book! Also, this month will be my twentieth wedding anniversary!
NOVEMBER: More than likely, another trip out to Estes Park, Colorado, to The Stanley Hotel for a ghost hunt and book signing. I'll have to remember to take canned oxygen this time to avoid altitude sickness...bleck. Also, we're hoping to take a European trip in November. That would be the bomb!
DECEMBER: Wow...2009's almost over? Nothing planned as of yet, but it's the holiday season (hopefully the CHRISTMAS MIRACLES books will be selling well) and my b-day and just gearing up in general for a jam-packed 2010!
So...what are you looking forward to in 2009? What are your big plans? Share with us!
Hugs!

I'm sooooooo thrilled to finally be able to reveal the cover for the first book in my new series - GHOST HUNTRESS - The Awakening, which will be released from Houghton Mifflin's Graphia line in exactly six months! Whoooooooohooooooooooo!!
I'm in luuuuuuuuuuuuuurve!!!
Available for pre-order on Amazon.com!
The cover was a combined effort of the amazing graphic artists at Houghton, as well as the artwork and photography of an agency in the UK called I Love Dust. They do all sorts of funky artwork for Beyonce, Nike, Pepsi, etc. I just love how they captured the look and feel of the story.
I'll keep this short as I'm working on some slight revisions for my second book, GHOST HUNTRESS - The Guidance, and need to hop on it! Hope you love the cover as much as I do!

Just like Tera Lynn's post, I find myself in a frenetic whirlwind of events and things to do. My brain is so fried, I don't know if I can compose a proper blog post, so I'll follow TLC's lead with all the things going:
1. Spent the weekend outside of Atlanta at my agent and fabulous author, Deidre Knight's, book launch for her new Gods of Midnight Series with the first book RED FIRE. Here we are enjoying the lovely evening:
2. Stayed up late last night finishing up edits/proofs on the galley of my first ghost book, GHOST HUNTRESS: THE AWAKENING. (Got an e-mail from my editor just now saying she's reading GHOST HUNTRESS: THE GUIDANCE and "is loving it so far!"
3. Doing a last-minute party for the sales desk at my work. Pulling it off tonight at a downtown hotel bar with is really, really nice, so I've got all that going on.
4. Tonight is TV night and I'm sooooooooo far behind on my DVR list! Tonight is America's Next Top Model, and the Project Runway finale. There's also new Ghost Hunters and let's not forget The Debacle...I mean, The Debate. I've got several episodes of Kitchen Nightmares, Haunting Evidence, Ugly Betty, and Ghost Whisperer to watch and catch up on. What an eclectic list, eh?
5. Tomorrow is my hubby's b-day and a VERY important element of his gift is missing. Stupid Amazon. Better get here today!
6. Friday night, we're going to go see...SWOOOOOON...Rick Springfield in concert. Never in my life would I have told you that I had the hots for a 60 year old man! LOL!! He rocks, though, and God bless Mike for going with me. Fourth row, baby!
7. Saturday, I'm joining my friends with the New England Ghost Project for their Spectral Evidence session in Salem, Massachusetts as part of the whole Festival of the Dead. We'll do a little ghost hunting and experimenting with new equipment.
8. Not to mention that my Crimson Tide is ranked #2 and playing on CBS Saturday (3:30 p.m. ET) against the Ole Miss Rebels. When will I have time to watch?
9. Sunday is my monthly RWA chapter meeting...if I can find the strength to wake up and drive there. LOL!!
10. Check myself into the hospital after doing all of this! LOLOL!!
What do you have planned for the weekend? Family fun? Football? A concert? Let us know!

Things are crazy here in my world. I work in the financial industry, so as you can imagine, it's a bit of a carnival ride right now. On top of that, I'm on deadline for my book, GHOST HUNTRESS: THE GUIDANCE, that is due in 18 days!!!

And, as if that's not enough...my hubby and I went to the shelter last night and put down an application for two kitties.
Oh heavens...we need names, too! Any suggestions?
Finally, some exciting news that I can share!
I spent last weekend in LA at a production company getting interviewed and filmed for a new paranormal TV. I can't give away too many details right now, but the show will premiere on The Biography Channel on Halloween night. It's being produced byA&E and they may be sneak-previewing it on the 29th. It was a really grueling pace from flying across country to working on the production for two days straight. So many LA friends were disappointed that we couldn't visit, but it was a business trip.

Well...we did have two hours on Saturday night to play. Check out the video my friend, Donn Shy, a fabulous paranormal investigator, did of our time in Hollywood.
Have you ever been to Hollywood? What was your experience? Was the cheese level as high for you? LOLOL!!!

Well, just when you think you've seen it all -- you know, the Virgin Mary in a grill cheese sandwich, Mickey Mouse in a Yukon gold potato, or the auctioning off of a human kidney -- eBay goes and flashes us another stroke of seller genius.
As you know, my next series, GHOST HUNTRESS (out in May 2009!), is about teenage ghost hunters so my friends send me anything and everything related to hauntings and huntings and spirits. The latest is from the fabulous Kristen Painter.
Check out this latest auction on eBay: Spice Rack Haunted by Spirit:
It looks like a normal spice rack. Harmless. Standard. However, the current owner claims...
I purchased this spice rack at an old thrift shop a few months back and ever since paranormal and unexplainable things have been occuring. The first strange thing that occured was the sound of an elderly woman humming in the kitchen as if to entertain herself while baking, banging of pots and pans have also been heard. Spices I had set on the spice rack have rearranged themselves over night as if the individual haunting this spice rack didn't like how I had them place. Whenever I'm in the kitchen I also feel like someone is watching me. I'm not sure of the history behind this spicerack but i'm pretty sure the person it belonged to sure loved spending time in the kitchen. Trying to sell it in hopes that the spirit haunting my kitchen will follow along with the spice rack once belonging to them in there physical life. Serious inquiries only please.
Thing is...there are 17 bids up for it and it's risen $50 since I discovered this yesterday. Why would you want that?!
Don't 'cha just love eBay? What's the strangest thing you've seen on eBay?

I apologize to our loyal Buzz readers for being absent the last couple of weeks. I was on deadline for my GHOST HUNTRESS book and I had a death in the family that sent me out of town. Sorry to be so behind.
But, during that time, I finally experienced one of the hottest items on the market and had the coolest time with it.
Yes...I have Wii'd.
OMG. What fun it was!!!
And it's not just for kids. Anyone can play it. It's soooooooo much fun and so easy.
You know how funerals turn into impromptu family reunions? Well, when I was in Baltimore last weekend, we ended up in a very rowdy, competitive Wii tournament. There was ping pong and doubles tennis and -- the one I excelled at -- bowling. Once I got the rhythm of letting go of the button once I went into my bowling wind up, I bowled several strikes in a row!!! Wow...it was as thrilling as if I were at the bowling alley.
I loved how the characters had no legs or feet! LOL!
Who knew you could get exercise out of it? I worked up a sweat and was even a little sore the next day! I loved it! Why don't I have one of these? Why doesn't everywhere I go have one of these? It's phenomenal and has changed my life!
I vow to be Wii-ing from now on!
Have you Wii'd? What's your favorite game? What do you recommend?

Happy Saturday from snowy, snowy Boston. Hope where you are is a lot warmer!
I woke up (late this morning -- loves my sleeping in time on Saturday!) and decided I needed to do a little dusting. I worked my way over to my secretary that I inherited from my grandparents. Here, I keep all of my "old" and "valuable" books - like a 1964 printing of GONE WITH THE WIND and some of my books from my childhood.
Today, I was particularly drawn to a couple of books on the end: CURIOUS GEORGE GOES TO THE HOSPITAL and CURIOUS GEORGE LEARNS THE ALPHABET. These came out the year I was born and I remember reading them so much that the covers came loose.
I turned to the front of the book to see who the publisher was (like any curious author) and irony of irony....it hit me...George's publisher is also my publisher... Houghton Mifflin Company here in Boston. Coincidence? I think not! Amazing that books...and a character who meant so much in my childhood are produced, even today, by the very publisher who bought my GHOST HUNTRESS series.
Isn't he just the cutest?
Do you have a favorite childhood book that has stayed with you? What is it?

This third novel in Huff’s Confederation military s-f series can be read on its own, but it is a direct sequel to the second novel. DAW Books has just published A Confederation of Valor, a combined edition of the first two novels, Valor’s Choice and The Better Part of Valor, which is recommended.
Torin Kerr is a sergeant in the Confederation Marines, in a multi-species interstellar civilization. Earth and its humans have been recruited into this civilization by its founders, dubbed the Elder Races, to help fight in a galactic war against the savage Others. Most of the actual fighting is done by the Marines, which consist of the three most warlike species discovered by the Elder Races; the humans, the di’Taykan, and the Krai. In the previous novels, Kerr was part of a detachment of Marines involved with bringing the newly discovered reptilian Silsviss into the Confederation, and exploring a totally alien spaceship, Big Yellow. Both were full of deathtraps and heavy on futuristic military action.
As The Heart of Valor opens, Torin has been promoted from Staff Sergeant to Gunnery Sergeant and assigned to give briefings on the Silsviss at the Confederation’s Ventris space station. (Big Yellow is still classified Top Secret.) After several weeks of repetitious briefings, Torin is bored stiff, so she jumps at the chance to take charge of a platoon of 32 recruits to the Marines’ training planet Crucible for a rugged winter combat simulation testing. They have hardly begun before they are cut off from off-planet communication and the automated tanks, aerial drones, and other military equipment that is supposed to give them a grueling but non-lethal testing starts trying to kill them for real. The novel is mostly hard-boiled military action as Torin tries to keep her recruits, with the biological needs of three different species, alive long enough to turn them into a smoothly-operating platoon of real Marines; and find out who has reprogrammed the simulation to kill them all.
The Confederation novels have been compared favorably to the Starship Troopers movie and video game, and Sgt. Torin Kerr to Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) in the Aliens movies. There are additional colorful aliens such as the obnoxious interstellar news reporter Presit a Tur durValintrisy, a small furry Katrien who looks vaguely like an otter with frighteningly sharp teeth, chromed claws and tinted sunglasses, who is trying to investigate from offworld who or what is sabotaging Crucible. The Heart of Valor is top-notch suspenseful military science fiction.
Happy release day, Marley" do believe in ghosts. I do, I do, I do believe in ghosts!"

I go back and forth on the subject of ghosts. I don't think I've actually encountered one.
The book sounds awesome. Congratulations.

So excited to read your new book.
I haven't had any experiences with either ghosts or angels, but I love ghost stories. I guess I'm undecided, I think it's possible, but until I have an encounter, I'm on the fence
Happy, Happy Release Day! I want to read Ghost Huntress sooooooo bad!!! :D
Thanks sooooo much, everyone!! I'm jazzed that you're all excited to read the book! Please be sure to stop back by and let me know what you think...or leave a review on Amazon.com. I have 27 already at 4.5 stars!! = )
EEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!
Marley, I can tell by the picture that your Candy was a total sweetheart. I lost a dog when I was around the same age, so you have my sympathy!
And congrats on the release! BTW, I love your cover...
Cara
I'm going to have to get it from Amazon, as the bookstore here takes way too long to get new (good) books in! Congrats on the release!
Congrats,Marley. What a touching story about Candy. I definitely believe. I'm looking forward to reading about Kendall's paranormal adventures.
Congrats on the release. I am really looking forward to reading this!

Congrats on the release. I am looking forward to reading it.
I do believe in ghosts and have had a couple of experiences.
Thanks so much Cara, Melissa, donnas, Leigh, Steph, Lori, Chuck (LOL!) - geeez, did I miss anyone? You guys have been great today...thanks! Would love pics of anyone reading GH if you've got them. = )
Congratulations, Marley! I've been looking forward to this book.
I'm a believer, alright! Just last night my husband told me he saw a ghost lurking in my study--he lived in a bona fide haunted house when he was a kid, so he knows a ghost when he sees one.
~ Vanessa
Marley, huge congrat's on your release!
Congrats on your release!
I've never seen a ghost so I don't know if I really believe in them. I guess I'm a 'see it to believe it' kinda girl.
But hey! My dad believes in them. He's told me he's seen them and while he won't give me the whole story, he seems seriously.
And the other night, a co-worker was telling me how one night, her old charge nurse came out of the elevator and collapse right there, having a heart attack. Then after the elevator would open by itself and close.
Then two seconds after saying this, we heard thumping from the floor above. Needless to say, it scared the crap out of me!
But guess what? it ended up being a false blue code. Why? Because THERE WAS NO BODY ON THE FLOOR.
SO creepy.
Congrats on the release! Can't wait to read it.
My mom and my great grand-mother, GaGa, were really close. Unfortunately, GaGa died 7 months before I was born. Almost a year after she died, my parents were sleeping & I was in the crib next to their bed. Mama says she saw GaGa as if she were standing right in front of her. She wanted to tell GaGa all about her new beautiful baby, but all she would say was "Check the baby." GaGa slowly faded away, while Mama cried and begged her not to go. Daddy had to shake Mama awake. Finally, after she told him what GaGa kept repeating, they went to my crib and found me blue in the face, and not breathing. When they got to the hospital, the doctor told them had they come even a minute later, I would've died of SIDS (crib death).
I (and my family) believe that God sent GaGa's angel, ghost, whatever you want to call it, to save my life. The weird thing is, I can sometimes feel her with me (even though I've never met her).
Wow, Marley, what a beautiful story about your beloved pup. I've had stuff like that happen to me, too. Often, spirits are checking in to make sure we're okay with their passing.
So, anyway enough ghosts -- CONGRATULATIONS! I'm so incredibly proud of you for your perserverance, spunk, and talent. You're one of the kindest, most generous writer friends I have and I couldn't be more thrilled on the release of the first Ghost Huntress books. You are a star, Marley.
xoxo,
Heather
Congratulations on the book release : )
It's so sad your dog passed away. I love it how she came back and said goodbye to you.
And do I believe in Ghosts? Yes. But I don't want to. I'm too timid to face them.
Congrats on the book launch!! Whoo hoo! I'm so happy for you. Now you always creep me out with you ghost stories. I don't like to go there. I know My K is going to love Ghost Huntress. I'm so excited to get it. As for if I believe. I'm always seeing figures out of the corners of my eyes. Just heard a tap upstairs as I as writing this. Grrrr. And I've had very vivid dreams where I think loved ones have visited me. Who knows.
Ooh great story! I believe that Candy came to say good bye to you. So touching! =)
I definitely believe in ghosts! My mother's dad and brother both had their own encounters.
I can't wait to see your answers for my interview!
