The Bag Ladies (Clinical Analysts). Ballpoint pen on my Moleskine ruled notebook
They go to work carrying bags. A bag for the computer, one for their papers, a purse, perhaps a lunch bag and always there is another to catch all. Sometimes they have it streamlined and they only lug a bag or strap on a purse. During project implementations they arrive en masse. Someone has been dispatched ahead of time to make sure there are enough snacks and pleasure food set up for the entire week. Managers rearrange their schedule to bring hot breakfast. There will be shifts and rotations, much like their schedule when they were in the front lines. This time they are everywhere. They are in the front lines and back. There will be so much stress and tension. They will be tired and sleepy. They will be loud and quiet. They will concentrate while working on a resolution. They will break to chat and laugh. There will be huddles and telephone conferences. They will walk the halls or sit glued to the computer. A lot of coffee, pots after pots and diet Coke at 3AM; 24 hours a day for as long as the implementation last. Shoes will come off, blazers come off, by the third day some may wish to come in their pajamas. They teach, guide, assist. Someone may yell at them. A doctor or nurse may scream at them. They just stand there maintaining their calm. They understand the tension and they care. They were once just like them, in the front lines. Today they are clinical analysts and they are supporting a major clinical application implementation. They are warriors but they did not come to battle. They came to build and establish.

Ang Sumsuman. (Two Men Drinking Tuba) 36 x 48 inches. Oil on Canvas. Click on image for details.
This is my entry to the "Join Us" theme. These two men are drinking a fermented alcoholic drink made from the juice of coconut fruits. Tuba can also be produced from the sap of a buri palm. In the evenings, Filipino men would gather in front of sari-sari-stores (little convenient store) and drink beer and tuba, sort of a "Happy Hour" event. They also have some sort of hors d'oeuvres such as grilled chicken, beef, pork or fish on skewers. These two men are eating grilled fish (with heads) on skewers. Tuba drinking is actually a macho practice and no self-respecting lady would ever join men drinking tuba or beer, so JOIN THEM at your own risk, in fact I don't know any woman who claimed to have drank tuba, but I did try it when I was a child since my Mother had a store. It actually tastes very good and you can easily get intoxicated. When you let a tuba stand for a long time, it will eventually turn to vinegar.
Ces, you are not only an astounding artist, you are an incredible writer!
the cuffs in the trousers...the wingtips, all those shady details, amazing.
...it's kind of "el greco -ey" looking...as they are sort of longish, like monoliths. this is really something.
This is really incredible! What an intense layering of ink on those pages! Wow!
At first I thought you were talking about me--a shoulder bag, and then another bag holding what doesn't fit into that (but I'm getting a bigger shoulder bag so hopefully evrything will fit exscept my lunch when I carry that!).
Hmm, I can't imagine what to draw now for this challenge . . .
This is clever and so well done Ces! I love your idea and find these power women fascinating! Love their suits and shoes!!!
Wow Ces! This is really great!
I have the bag lady syndrome! I love black and white Moleskine illustrations. Especially on the ruled paper. That paper is my favorite!
