I was wondering why Google had gone all Peter Rabbit today.
So to find the answer I (of course) Googled it. Turns out it's Beatrix Potter's birthday.
So happy bday, BP! And check out this awesome Peter Rabbit website I just found in my searching.
What's everyone's favorite Beatrix Potter character? I was a big Jemima Puddle-Duck fan, for the record.

I'm not sure what my favorite character was, but I do have a funny (well, maybe only to me) story. I took my husband to England for the first time a few years ago and we took a day trip with my friend, Carole, up to Beatrix Potter's house. There's a lovely gift shop in it now and you can walk the gardens and then there's a wonderful hike up to a tarn where she used to go and watch the wildlife. Anyway, while we were wandering around the gift shop, looking at all the Potter inspired gifty items, and my husband was not trying very hard to hide his boredom, I said to him, "I'm going to get this card for Olivia (our friend's child in the States), but I really want to get her this figurine of Peter Rabbit too. What do you think?" and he looked at me and said, "Why? She's not even going to know who Peter Rabbit is." !!! Apparently, if his mother read to him when he was little (probably), his memory did not reach back that far and he had NO IDEA why this gift shop even existed! He was just there for the hike (which I highly recommend). In fact, maybe I'll post a picture of the tarn on my site today in honor of BP.
I always wanted to be "a good little bunny," so I'll go with Flopsy, Mopsy, and Cottentail!
The tarn Joelle describes is Jeremy Fisher's pond--it was quite a walk up to it with my children, and boring for them, because the lane was bounded by stone walls they couldn't see over, but they liked it plenty when they got there!
Just for future reference, if you hover your cursor over the Google art, it will tell you the occasion :)
Not nearly as fun as investigating though!
No way!

Beatrix Potter's series of books are probably my most beloved childhood read. The illustrations are magical, and the stories so charming, it's like they're from another world.
My favorite is The Tale of Jeremy Fisher, there's something about the scale of everything that fascinated me, even as a child. I remember he used a horse hair to fish with, but he had a bobber that was "frog sized" too - where did he get that?!
I hope when I have children, that they are as enthralled by these books as I continue to be.
My favorite has always been The Tale of Two Bad Mice. :)
