I've re-designed my website, let me know what you think!

It's finally here! I found this piece a challenge as I wanted to create my own unique type face for the cover's lettering, but it was worth it in the end! This piece has given me a lot more confidence in how I handle colour in a way that I'm comfortable with, and I'm really happy with how it's turned out. Creating the photographs for the back cover, and painting the texture on Reynard's fur was particularly enjoyable.
Painted with my favourite and very excellent Winsor & Newton watercolours.
This week I'm working on my 'Reynard the Detective' book jacket.
Reynard and Komondor Knight come face to face, as Komondor Knight demands to know, 'Where's my shipment?'
I am particularly pleased with this one, as I found it challenging and feel that my cross hatching shading has stepped up a notch. I'm really happy with the sense of place, the hanging ropes, and the texture on the floorboards. I love creating a dramatic atmosphere using high contrast lighting, and Komondor Knight continues to be an incredibly fun character to work on.
Reynard and Brittany sneaking through the dark...

See my previous blog post here for an introduction to this project and to learn more about the characters.
Happy New Year everyone!
Let's start this new year with a bang, as I introduce you to my new project I've been working on.
Introducing Reynard the Detective, and Detective Brittany, talking to the Interpreter. Reynard the fox is a freelance Detective, and Detective Brittany (who despite his somewhat effeminate name is in fact an enthusiastically loud male dog) works for the force. They are working on a case together, and begin by paying a visit to the Interpreter, an old friend of Reynard's.

My work was selected for the Association of Illustrator's jury selected annual 'Images 35 - Best of British Illustration 2011' in the New Talent Category.
"Images is the UK's leading illustration competition... showcasing the very best contemporary illustration published in the UK. Images is unique in that it is Britain's only jury-selected illustration competition, judged by a highly regarded panel of industry experts, spanning multiple categories. Images combines contemporary book design of the highest quality with functionality - making it an indispensable tool for leading commissioners and industry professionals."
My piece 'The Barrodor Chase' was selected, from my picturebook I wrote and illustrated in my final year of university. The text description reads 'Illustration from 'The Barrodor', an original fairy tale that can also be read as a story about lonliness and isolation, the need for companionship, and overcoming our personal demons.' I was very honoured to be selected and be a part of this awesome publication!

Article I wrote for Business Boom Bolton, about the Manchester and Salford Illustrated opening night. I talk about my experiences of the evening, the benefits of networking and being invited to exhibit, and the success of the project as a whole.

You can read the full article here:
Here are some photos from the fantastic opening night event for the first 'Manchester and Salford Illustrated' (#MASI)exhibition, held at Creative Lynx at 52 Princess Street in Manchester, on Thursday the 27th of October, 2011.
The opening evening was a complete success, with a massive turn out and a really buzzing atmosphere. I met so many lovely new illustrators, and caught up with some old University friends as well.
And most of all - What a whopping amount the prints made in the very first night! - We raised over £2,000 for Wood Street Mission charity, which is absolutely fantastic. Well done everyone and an extra special thanks to Stephen Hey for bringing it all together and working so damn hard with the rest of the team to make this all happen. It was a fantastic success and I am very happy to be part of the exhibition.

Doug on the train in pencil. Doug (the dog) is the director making a film about marriage equality in the comic I am working on. Man foreshortening a dog is hard!
Some sneak previews of the comic I am working on for [MN]Love on the subject of marriage equality, which is going to be published by 2D Cloud next year.

My 100th Twitter follower received a custom canvas bag, which was sent to Myra from Gathering Books all the way to Singapore! You can see her bag here: http://emmareynoldsillustration.blogspot.com/2011/09/gathering-books-rocks.html
And as I am nearing 200 and Myra was so happy with hers, I thought that I would run it again! So...
I will send the winner a direct message on Twitter, asking them to give me three words from which I will create an original illustration. This design will be a unique, washable, hand drawn illustration, on 100% cotton.
If the winner is unable to reply within 5 working days, it will go to the previous follower, and so on.
Also, if a business wins, I will ask them to nominate someone to receive the bag, and will address it to them within that company.
Good luck!
