32. Sketching in Corel Painter 12

A little fairy sketch... I really like the new real water colour brushes in Corel Painter 12.1. They feel very natural.

I’ve been messing about with symmetry as well, but the results are a bit freaky so far :)

Red Riding Hood is going well so far. I’ve done the composition studies, colour studies and a few character designs, so I think I’m ready to start painting now.

41. Work on Thimble Folio Press Website

It has been taking a little longer than I thought it would setting up my Thimble Folio Press website. I always think its easier making websites for other people than myself.
I will post little snap shots of the progress as I develop it. I want it to be more of an Illustrated website than some of my other designs so far and since I don’t have a budget because its for myself I feel like going crazy. I have a logo or mascots to do, a background image and little icons to do yet as well as the actual website content. A Christmas cake of a website if you will.

I’ve just completed work on a demo website for my new Client Area WordPress Theme though and I’ve learned how to make screen cast videos in Camtasia 7.

As well as this I’ve been doing a self taught Schoolism course on Character Design since last November by Stephen Silver. I found it useful although pricey. For the many art books I’ve collected over the years I can honestly say in every video I learned something new, so I think it was worth it. In these lean times of recession we all have to invest in our futures a little.

I’ve also started a free resource section and a blog on my client area for creative people. I’m going to be writing little (hopefully) useful articles and I’ve put my set of brushes for Corel Painter there as well if anyone wants to play with them.

43. Painting Study and Practice

I found a website the other day that does live stream videos on a Saturday for Artists who want to improve their skills (all of us artists really).

Awesome Horse Studios

I did a little study of the photo reference they used of the singer Pink.

The aim I think was to study it not copy, and I don’t see the point of hyper photorealism in paintings anyway. Aside from it being really time consuming it doesn’t do anything for me personally, I’d rather just take a picture with my camera for that.

Please see my other quick painting studies in my sketchbook section if you have time.
