It's interesting looking at the various styles of illustrators overseas. They have such a unique aesthetic. Korean Illustrator's Group. I love the work of Park, Sun-Young and Chun Hea-Ryoung. These two ladies have such amazing work. They have interviews under the interview section. There is video but it is not subtitled. I want to step into the work of Park Sun-Young. Chun Hea-Ryoung work is layered and dynamic collage.

This was a fun intro book for young children on some simple Korean words. My First Book of Korean Words by Henry Amen and Kyubyong Park.

It brings up some points about the Korean language not having some of the same letter sounds and illustrations are very cute!

Sketch for a cocoa bear shop. Things look so much cuter when written in korean. I thought about Maurice Sendak's illustrations of Little Bear. Especially the story about when he asked his mother for a coat, etc.

This is a sketch for a 32 page children's book project that I was working on for myself. Based on a Korean folktale similar to the three little pigs. The story's antagonist is a hunger tiger who hides in secret while waiting for the mother to go away. This leaves three sisters inside the house trying to avoid letting the clever tiger inside.

I've heard more of my fellow illustrators and authors offer Skype or Virtual Visits. I'm fortunate to have a nice relationship with the author of the books I've illustrated. Heather and I did a joint presentation with a group of students. She did an amazing job. Webcam needs to be attached. I used a ziggi cam as a webcam. We tested prior to the visit to make sure it would work. Having some kind of projector to have it easier for the audience to see who they are speaking to. Make sure you have an internal or external mic. I actually had to plug in my USB external mic. Then make sure that you specify the external mic in skype. Then you are off and running. It worked really well. I think it makes it more accessible for kids to meet authors, illustrators, or artists.

The 5th Annual Children's Book Illustrator's Show hosted by the DeKalb County Library and the Georgia Center for the Book May 25th - June 10th

If you ever need to cut plexi instead of glass to show off your original art here are some helpful tips. You can get a cutter from your local hardware store in the same aisle as the plexi. I purchase the thinnest plexi. Then I remove the plastic covering on one side. Then I use a ruler and permanent marker to mark my guidelines. Remember you'll want to cut the plexi slightly smaller then your marks so it will fit in the frame. Then I put a piece of foamboard or cardboard under the plexi. The side that you removed the protective cover should be faced up. Then with the ruler as a guide, press down firmly on the ruler, then start to score. I score it 12 times. Then I flip it remove the cover and score the back 3x. Then carefully pull the opposite sides of the plexi together. It should easily snap!

To remove any marks from the permanent marker just use a little paint thinner to remove.

It's that time of the year to update my site. I went for something similar but cleaner looking. I'm getting more into my digital collage work and decided to feature it on the homepage.

I also sent out almost 30 promos for the New Year. I haven't sent out that much work in forever. Once I get my digital collage further along I plan for another mail out. I hopefully it leads to more work.

There is the most lovely children's book store in Bluffton, SC. The Storybook Shoppe. They now carry copies of Rockabye Baby Jesus and Twelve Colorful Things. Check out the photos.

Another indie bookstore that carries a title I've illustrated is E Shaver bookstore in Savannah. Autographed copies!
