Responsibilities
  • Plan and write a high quality online teacher education course(s) in a specific subject area (ELA, Math, Special Education, Science, Teacher Preparation, etc.)
  • Write detailed and concise syllabi for subject specific courses that include a course description, measurable objectives, learning outcomes, unit overviews, activities, and assessments
  • Write engaging, practice focused course content including formative assessments and a summative assessment
  • Work with the Associate Director of Curriculum and Instruction to storyboard course(s) for graphical video production
  • Use an Learning Management System (LMS) and Articulate Storyline (or something similar) to develop the online content
  • Organize course and content to leverage existing content in the Generation Ready library
Necessary Qualifications
  • A Master’s Degree
  • Teaching and professional development experience in content area with proven mastery
  • At least one year of curricular design experience for teachers
  • Experience creating curriculum demonstrating a deep knowledge of content, pedagogy, and current research
  • Experience creating interactive learning activities for adults
  • Experience and skill at creating assessments in alignment with an overall evaluation strategy

Edtech start-up Core Learning Exchange is seeking freelance curriculum and assessment writers to create technology-enhanced Grade 8 Mathematics and English Language Arts (ELA) content. We are looking for experienced educators or instructional designers who are familiar with the Common Core, blended learning techniques, and/or PARCC and SBAC item formats. This is a flexible opportunity that allows authors to take on as many or as few assignments as they like.

We are hiring for two separate projects:

Curriculum
Curriculum developers will be asked to develop a variety of instructional and practice activities aligned to specific ELA or Mathematics learning objectives, which are based on the Common Core State Standards. Core-LX will pay authors $400 for each assignment; authors will retain ownership of their content and will have the opportunity to earn royalties for its future use. This project will begin immediately and continue through Summer 2015, though authors are free to determine the timing and extent of their involvement.

I just came across this article and thought it would be useful as a guide.

The reason I found it is because I posted a question about what I can ask a potential client with regards to a specific project. I had a very STRANGE encounter with potential client today and so when I read this list of questions...I was glad that I had asked #8 under Project-Specific Questions.

I did not get a proper response...in fact, the potential client sent the entire exchange thread back to me...but neglected to delete a comment he'd made to his supervisor...OUCH. If you want to know which company this is, I am happy to share offline (I had already been warned, so this might be a blessing).

Anyway, you can perhaps work these questions into our writing world. I think they are relevant.

Details: We are looking for freelance writers to contribute to the Lesson Ideas section that appears in each issue of Scholastic Instructor magazine. An editor will assign a topic and grade band. The writer will research activities on teacher blogs, social media, from educator contacts, etc. to find five or six activities that would work well in the section. (We look for creativity and innovation in lessons, as opposed to old standbys.) The writer will then contact the teachers for additional information and summarize the activities, including standards alignment, materials needed, and procedure. Each section typically includes five or six activities plus a sidebar totaling 1200 words. Assignments are work for hire and are usually due in about two to three weeks.
