Dear Friends,I have such exciting news to share!
First, I want to share my BRAND NEW improved website at Phyllis Harris Designs! This was a HUGE labor of love and I am SO relieved it is finally done! I hope you will notice it has a much cleaner look and the visitors will hopefully enjoy a wonderfully easy to navigate experience as they visit my shop. I could not have done it without the wonderful help from http://aeolidia.com. I highly recommend them to anyone looking to create a website/ecommerce website.

As a child, one of my favorite Christmas traditions every year was to gather round my siblings and my older sister would read "The Night Before Christmas" right before we went to bed on Christmas eve. My mother still has that copy of our beloved book and although the pages are falling out, you can tell it was a very used love-worn book.
Many of you know that I have a precious new grand daughter and I hope to start our own family tradition with her by reading Margaret Wise Brown's "On Christmas Day" to her every Christmas season.
What a blessing it was to be asked to illustrate the lyrical words of Margaret Wise Brown.

Where has this year gone?!
If you are like me, this year has flown by! Halloween is next week and then on to the holidays! I am busy preparing for the hustle and bustle that comes when running a business around the holiday season of shopping. I will be revealing my new website hopefully by the first of November. At least that is the plan, yikes!
At times when life gets so busy and a bit insane I have to remind myself to take a breath and look up and remind myself of who is really in control. When I created this new art, I knew that no matter what comes my way, I am going to be just fine! I hope it brings you a sense of joy and peace as well.

About two months ago I created a piece of art(pictured above) that was inspired by my sweet grand daughter because she had recently found her shadow and was so fascinated by it. Then this photo was just taken about a week ago and I had to giggle at how similar they were! Just had to share.

I have often heard that life inspires art. I can certainly vouch for that personally. In the past, I have always drawn from my memories of my own childhood and my precious daughter's childhood. Lately, I have a NEW inspiration...my incredible grand daughter! She just turned 10 months old and although every stage is so special; I am loving this stage!! She is crawling and is so full of life. I can already see her little personality shining through.
This sketch was recently inspired by my sweet grand daughter who has recently discovered her shadow. I will call it Shadow Play. I can't wait to paint it!
Phyllis Harris Designs is starting a brand new collaboration with a wonderful company and I am so excited to share the news with you all but I must wait a bit longer so please stay tuned!

Why am I celebrating? I am celebrating because 5 years ago today, on April 24th, 2009 I had a life saving surgery and I praise God that I have been cancer free ever since. 5 years cancer free!! Hallelujah!!
I am so grateful for every single day that I have been blessed with especially since my battle with breast cancer. When I think back on everything that has happened over these past 5 years, I am so very grateful that I got to witness my sweet daughter get married as well as getting to be there when my precious grand daughter was born. I am so very blessed to be married to my wonderful and amazing soul mate and best friend for these past 32 years who was with me every step of the way throughout my battle.
And to top it all off…I get to do what I love and love what I do every single day at Phyllis Harris Designs! How could I ever ask for more?

My grass is finally starting to turn green...hooray!!!! There have even been a few sporadic 70 degree days here and there. Spring is funny that way. It can be 70 degrees one day and the next could be freezing and snowing so I just try and enjoy every day. It is never boring, that's for sure!
I have been busy sketching lately. I first started sketching this little girl called "Wonder" but I didn't get to the final painting before I was commissioned to create a spring/Easter painting for a wonderful customer and friend. However, someone on Instagram asked if I would be willing to sell it in sketch form and I was more than happy to do so. It is now available in my shop as a sketch until I can get time to paint it. This got me thinking that I may start offering several of my pieces in sketch form in the near future. There is something really magical about sketches.
Below is a look at the commissioned piece I did and although I sent off the original watercolor painting to my lovely customer, I am now offering it in print form to the rest of you all here! Just click on the photo to go see in the shop.

Phyllis Harris DesignsWelcome! I am Phyllis Harris and I am so grateful that you have stopped by. As the illustrator of over 35 Children’s Picture Books, one of my greatest passions is creating art that inspires hope, love and the innocence of childhood. I have had a passion for illustration from the time I could hold a crayon. Having my own daughter in 1986 and reading her countless picture books helped me discover my calling – creating art for children, and for the child in all of us!
Every one of us is unique and gifted. I believe my God-given gift is in creating children’s art that is whimsical and nostalgic; an illustrative style that captures the innocence and hope of childhood. My hope is that my art will brighten the walls of your child’s room or nursery; and bring a smile and joy to their hearts for many years to come.
NOTE: Most of my art is customizable! My customizations include changing the hair color, skin color if needed or possibly even the color of the clothing but only to the existing art. I'm sorry but I cannot change the drawing itself, only the colors if needed. I can also add or change existing text if there is any, add a name or favorite verse or saying.
