About Jessica
I received my BA from University of California at Davis in 1995. Three short years later at age 26, I had a brainstem stroke and became a ventilator dependent quadriplegic. It took several years for the shell shock to wear off. In 2006, I began to take online classes for writing. As of December 2007, I’ve completed 14
I'm currently and taking a class with the Institute of Children's Literature and writing a memoir and two children's picture books. I have 2 short stories that will be published in 2008 by Stories for Children online. Chicken Soup for the Soul published my essay, "Optimistic Light" in December 2007 and has accepted 2 other essays for publication in March 2008. I'm focusing on building my writing credits and a network of contacts, before I attempt to write a MG novel or complete my memoir, because contacts are essential to selling my books in the future not to mention it energizes my writing muscles.
My website will launch in January 2008. I am putting the finishing touches on it now. I joined SCBWI in November and am active in their discussion boards. In 2007 I joined the MuseItUpClub, a lively writing discussion group, 2 other writing discussion groups, and 2 private critique groups for children’s writers.
I just purchased my first home and it is undergoing a major renovation. When my website debuts be sure and visit. You can cast your vote for my homestead’s name or suggest one.
