About Mary
Here is what anyone who reads this should know.
My professional life has revolved around children. I have over thirty years experience as a teacher. Most of it at the junior high level teaching math, reading, history, and religion. During my teaching career I told stories to my students. These stories had a lesson to them.
One story, The Warm Snowman took on a life of its own in this way. Shy about saying it was my story, I would tell them it was truly written by a snowman. Overtime, the children would refer to The Warm Snowman as if he truly lived. One Christmas, a boy named Mark gave me a present. On the tag,it said, TO THE WARM SNOWWMAN. He told me, I could only open it IF I was the WARM SNOWMAN. Mark was a wise student. In his gracious way, he found a way for me to reveal myself. As a result of this, I could come out of the closet.
What followed was a series of events that could only be believed in a movie. The Warm Snowman was published into a book, two other books, The Secret Ingredient, and The Championship Coach, sold at Wrigley Field courtesy of the Chicago Cubs followed. All three books have been sold locally at Walgreens.
Now, I am working on a third book, Dolly the Donut. It is actually a series of 12 books. Each with a lesson.
Along with this, I have finished an adult novel which I hope to have published.
I have been blessed with two daughters, Sarah, and Holly. My grandson, Zack is ten; and of course, an avid reader.
As early as three, I wrote. My dad has a photo of me with a pencil at that age about to write something. Later, at 10 he bought me a typewriter for Christmas because he thought learning to type would help me with my dyslexia. You were right, dad. IT did!
Overall, I am pleased with how my life has evolved. I am a mom, teacher and author but most of all a person with strong convictions in the value and lessons of life. This is what I write about; what gives my work meaning.
