About Cayuqui
I have been living in south-central Mexico since 1954 where I have been active in the conservation of the current indigenous Mexican cultures, organizing several state-wide, national, and one international, indigenous dance festivals. At present I am retired from the university at Oaxaca and spend my time getting my notes, photographs, and drawings together and classifying them. I also have begun to paint again, my first love.
At present I live alone in a dilapidated ex-hacienda, with no telephone lines or other means of communication. I share this life with my two cats and four dogs. My married children (two) live elsewhere, along with my grandchildren and great grandchildren.
I am within sight of Mt. Popocatepetl, Mexico's active snow-capped volcano, and close enough to the hot lowlands to be able to jump from one climate to another without much trouble.
What I have published has been mostly locally, in the majority essays and nonfiction, but also some retold folktales and the beginnngs of a juvenile novel which I had set in the State of Campeche, but have moved to southern Brooklyn. I also have illustrated several books: one juvinile and one travel book in the united States, and one folk-customs book about Oaxaca, but which was published also in the USA. Other than that it's been weekly columns, and newspaper and magazine articles.
I am satisfied with life as it is, but think that I still have a lot to accomplish.
Best wishes,
Cayuqui
