Ever since I can remember I've been an insatiable reader, to the extent of poring over bus tickets and playing word games with whatever is written on them if nothing else is at hand.
Children's literature has burgeoned enormously in the past decade, surpassing a lot of adult literature, so it's an exciting realm to be involved in, from almost any aspect.
I've done some freelance editing and proofreading, both of which I enjoy, but bringing together people and books is fulfilling, especially when a 'non-reader' comes back to ask "Is there anything else like that book you recommended?" Magic moments! Enthusiasm goes a long way...
Discovery of new books, or hitherto unknown authors and illustrators - these help make it all worthwhile, and sites such as JacketFlap are treasure maps for me. Also, you can never have too many friends, especially when they share your interests, so reviews and contacts are always welcome.
