Tim Bowers was born in Troy, Ohio. He began drawing at an early age and even then, his artwork reflected a strong sense of humor and an interest in animals. Tim attended the Columbus College of Art & Design in Columbus, Ohio where he received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.

After college, Bowers married and moved to Kansas City, Missouri. There he worked as an artist for Hallmark Cards. While with Hallmark, he participated in various humor groups and helped launch the popular Shoebox Greetings card line.

Tim’s first children’s book, THE TOY CIRCUS by Jan Wahl, was published in 1986. Since then, his children’s book illustrations have enhanced the stories of some of America’s most popular children’s book authors and have received such honors/awards as the Chicago Book Clinic- Honor Book, Child Magazine- Top Pick selection, the Children’s Choice Award, Child Magazine- Best Children’s Book Award, Chicago Public Library’s “Best of the Best” list, and several of his books have been chosen as Junior Library Guild selections. Tim Bowers’ illustrations have also been included in the Society of Illustrator’s Annual Art Exhibition, The S.I. Humor Exhibition, The Original Art Exhibition- Celebrating the Fine Art of Children’s Book Illustration and the Mazza Museum- International Art from Picture Books.

Original paintings from several of Tim’s books are in private and institutional collections across the United States.

Tim now lives with his family in Granville, Ohio. To date, he has illustrated more than twenty children’s books. His greeting cards continue to be published by leading card companies in the United States.

Each year, Tim Bowers travels to schools and libraries to share his artwork with students of all ages and, on occasion, teaches cartooning classes to local children.
