About Jessica
I am primarily a speculative literature writer with a collection of short stories and a novel recently completed. My work falls mostly under the genre of children’s books but also caters to a broader and more diverse audience. I am also a poet, painter, mosaicist, and illustrator.
The protagonists, in my writings, deal with social justice issues that they tackle valiantly while struggling to change the world. They teach us to think limitlessly that allows us the freedom to imagine the impossible. Most of the characters, although operating in fantasy, deal with real issues like environmental degradation, oppression of minorities, poverty, and the impact of war on families. When placed within the context of our social issues, my protagonists have the potential of uplifting humanity and fortifying consciousness across borders.
I am a community organizer with a masters degree in political science. For over ten years, along with residents, I have worked in low-income communities collectively attempting to bring social change. Our work, reflected overwhelmingly in my stories, has inspired me to write and carry on the message of hope and empowerment. I hope through my writings to bring positive change in the communities we reside in.
