I wrote my first novel when I was 14. Of course, it was so horrendous that I promptly tore it up and threw it away! Now, 30-some-odd years later, I've done it again -- but this time I'm not throwing it away.

I have a great passion for historical fiction, especially that written for young adults. Everyone says you should write what you would like to read, so I've done that and written about a young woman in early 19th century America. It's been a fun process. Of course I love the writing, but it took me by surprise to find that I've also loved the research and the editing phases.

In my 21st century life, I teach speech and other communication classes at a small, private college. My husband and I have two children who are at the age when kids start to get really busy with activities but can't drive yet, so I have much time for plotting and character development while I'm driving to events or sitting through games or birthday parties.
