I have published three books, with a forth on the way! I have been teaching Language Arts in Volusia County, Florida (home of Daytona Beach, but I don't live near it) for 17 years. Since 2000, I have been drawing a comic strip for the Daytona Beach News-Journal called "Mr. Fitz"-- it's about the joys and frustrations of being a middle school teacher. The strip makes a couple of guest appearances in my young adult novel, "Making My Escape," which is about a boy, Daniel Finn, who daydreams too much. The strip appears extensively in my recent book from Scholastic, "Writing Extraordinary Essays," a book for teachers about getting students to go beyond the 5-paragraph formula essay and actually emulate what real writers do. I just self-published another YA book with my 9th grade son via Lulu.com called "Portents." My forthcoming book for Scholastic is about creating word pictures and is tentatively titled "Teaching Students to Make Writing Visual and Vivid."
