It's an entertaining, funny story that is certain to get boys and girls reading-while demonstrating the importance of staying true to yourself, no matter what anyone else says. From the first thing in the morning, Jayden is so excited about his birthday, because turning ten is a very grown up thing to do. He is excited about a lot of other things, too. For example, when the school bus driver, Mr. Peterson, tries to persuade Jayden to be a teacher, he happily exclaims that he wants to be a doctor to help sick kids feel better. Throughout the day, everyone he meets has a different idea about what Jayden wants. Jayden sticks to his guns, and chooses a book with a doctor on the cover. At the playground, his friend Sammy wants to swing from the monkey bars, but Jayden's game is basketball.
