My name is Gina Capaldi and I am passionate about children's books, history and stories that inspire. IMy co-author, QL Pearce, and I spent the last few years happily researching, writing our latest book...Red Bird Sings: The Story of Zitkala Sa, Native American Author, Musician, and Activist. (Carolrhoda, 2011)

I also had a the greatest pleasure in illustrating Red Bird...and, another book published by Boyds Mills Press, Dancing on Grapes, written by Graziella Pacini-Buonano.

* Gold Medal Winner in the Multicultural Nonfiction Juv-Teen-YA for the Independent Publisher Book Award.

* Bank Street College of Education has just announced that A Boy Named Beckoning will be included in their 100th anniversary edition of The Best Children’s Books of the Year. This special, expanded edition of our annual booklist will be published in September, 2009.

* 2009 Skipping Stones Honor Award

* Nominated as 'finalist' in the Western Writers of America 2009 Spur Awards competition for the Juvenile Nonfiction Catagory

* 2009 Carter G. Woodson Honor Book Award from the National Council for the Social Studies and has been named an Exceptional Social Studies Title for Intermediate Grades.
(Carter G. Woodson Honor Book in the elementary level category. This award is presented annual ly to the most distinguished social science books depicting ethnicity in the United States that are appropriate for young readers.)

* Librarian’s Choice, 2008
* NCSS-CBC Notable Social Studies Committee selected for the Notable Social Studies Trade Books for Young People 2009: (This list is a cooperative project of the National Council for the Social Studies (NCSS) and the Children's Book Council.)
