2. Charlie Bone Cats

I don't have many works where cats form the central theme of the image, but often they're in the background or part of the narrative, like these text illustrations from the Charlie Bone novels (Japanese edition), where three mysterious cats are an important part of the plot.

Calling all CATS for February. These cats were line art for chapter headings for "Cat Calls" by Jeanne Adlon and Susan Logan, published by Square One Publishing. It was a very fun project to work on. Cats get a bad rap for being aloof, they have amazing personalities.

10. Boris

We have a cat Boris that always keeps me company in my studio,  he hangs out under the window and the squirrels love to tease him. Very fun to watch.

12. BOOKMARK

There's not much to do until we have a phone meeting on Monday, so I did a bookmark for an upcoming school beano.  I will print these out myself on colored paper.  Hope you feel better soon, June.

13. February's theme - CAT

February already? Seems like we were just celebrating New Years! These two kids appear to be celebrating the fact that their rambunctious kitten has finally calmed down and fallen asleep. Shhhhhhh...

14. Asteroids DO Crash!

We do a lot of talking about asteroids in our house... Having an almost eight year old who is extremely scientifically minded helps quite a bit. One night my daughter, two, and I had a conversation about dinosaurs. It went something like this:

"Mommy, where did all the dinosaurs go?"

"Well, some say it was a giant asteroid crashing into earth, others think it was a giant volcano...etc.. then.."

Quiet for a minute...

"Mommy,"

"Yes?"

"I think it was aliens. They landed in the ocean and caused these volcanoes. Then the dinosaurs went away. I think they went to the beach though, or maybe the forest."

The next day, at dinner, she insists she cannot sit still, because SHE is an asteroid.

Did you know that asteroids do not eat asparagus?
(And of course, I am now creating something out of this!)

17. Viking Daddy Bakes a Cake

IT's Finished! I started tonight, along with some cold medicine and tea... (truth be told I had forgotten completely about this over the holidays - like many things I will realize tomorrow) and just felt like doing a viking. I hope it works in the app, and I can't wait to see what everyone else has put in!!
Happy New Year.

Here's a spread from DinoTracks, my fourth illustrated book with Sylvan Dell Publishing. These are polar dinosaurs, Timimus Hermani who lived at the icy south pole. OK, the santa hat was added later - that's my artistic license showing.
I've been telling folks that DinoTracks comes out next year, but now have to remember to say this fall. Happy 2013!
