George (Speedy) Arnold is a life-long resident of Keeseville, NY. He has been drawing and painting most of his life, however, in the last 30 years, it is rare to see him without a sketchbook in hand. Almost all of his sketches are done in his spare time between his 3 “real” jobs: owner and operator of Arnold’s Grocery, AuSable Valley school bus driver, and Town of AuSable assessor. Speedy is also has performed with the bluegrass band “Three Doug Knight”,performs solo at farmers markets, libraries and schools, as well as playing the role of Julnissar at Santa’s Workshop’s annual “Yuletide family weekends.”
His newest children's book, "What's an Elephant Doing in the AuSable River ?!!" is 60 pages ,with over 120 of Speedy's illustrations, He also has illustrated several other books including one authored by North-Country musician Jim Goff titled “The Little Brook in the Field” and “The Adventures of Molly The Monarch Butterfly”, written by lifelong friend Maureen Akey.
Speedy’s artwork features scenes from around his home in upstate New York including Whiteface Mountain, the Jay Covered Bridge, & sketches of historic buildings from other area towns. The media includes ink, colored pencil, and an occasional oil or watercolor. Pieces are on display at the artist’s business, Arnold’s Grocery and Likker Lokker on Rt. 9N in Keeseville, NY.
