Dr. Rosalie Fink, Professor of Literacy at Lesley University in Cambridge, MA., earned the degree of Doctor of Education in Reading and Language in 1992 at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. She also holds masters and bachelor’s degrees from The State University of New York, Cortland and The University of Massachusetts, Amherst, respectively. Dr. Fink has taught literacy and dance to children and adults in public and private schools in Massachusetts and New York. She has been on the Lesley University faculty for over 25 years, teaching undergraduate, master’s degree, and doctoral students in the fields of literacy, education, and special education. Dr. Fink’s current courses include Gender, Learning, Language, and Love: English Composition and a course about Struggling Readers and Writers. She is passionately committed to student-centered learning and The Interest-based Model of Reading that she developed. Rosalie Fink’s newest book, INSPIRING READING SUCCESS: INTEREST AND MOTIVATION IN AN AGE OF HIGH-STAKES TESTING, was chosen as a 2008 Book Club selection by The International Reading Association. In addition, her 2006 book, WHY JANE AND JOHN COULDN’T READ----AND HOW THEY LEARNED, was a best-seller and Book Club selection of The International Reading Association. Dr. Fink’s books and articles are used in college courses across the United States, Canada, Europe, and Israel and are featured at www.reading.org (the website of The International Reading Association). Professor Fink has published many articles and book chapters, including Literacy Development in Successful Men and Women with Dyslexia (Annals of Dyslexia, Vol. 48); Successful Dyslexics: A Constructivist Study of Passionate Interest Reading (Journal of Adolescent and Adult Literacy, Vol. 39, No. 4); and Successful Careers: The Secrets of Adults with Dyslexia (Career Planning and Adult Development Journal, Vol. 18. No. 1). Rosalie Fink speaks frequently about literacy, high-stakes testing, and other educational topics to groups of students, parents, teachers, administrators, researchers, and policy-makers. Professor Fink gives keynote addresses, lectures, and workshops at national and international conferences. Based on her research, Rosalie has won grant awards from The National Academy of Education, The Spencer Foundation, and Lesley University. She is a past President of The Massachusetts Association of College and University Reading Educators and was elected to The International Academy for Research in Learning Disabilities and The International Mind, Brain, and Education Society. She serves on the editorial board of the International Reading Association’s Journal of Adolescent and Adult Literacy.
