About Dave
In the mid-90’s the opportunity to work in children’s books materialized when Landoll, Inc. in Ashland, Ohio placed an ad for an illustrator. There were many highs and lows in the business, especially early on, but I never regretted any of it. For every conflict or defeat, there were ultimately greater rewards for staying on this path. In the six years I was with the company, I grew as an artist and even got to write a few books as well. Landoll, Inc. made huge strides, too, thanks to some very talented co-workers--artists, writers, editors and art directors. If not for the company being sold and subsequently closed by a competitor, I believe it would be at the forefront of mass market children’s books today.
As far as preferred subject matter, the answer is quite simply FANTASY. I am not really interested in realistic stories about childhood rites of passage or youthful angst. However, if the story’s message can be told with animals, aliens or allosaurs, I want to be there!
Currently, my career path in children's books is stalled, but I hope to resume the journey some day.
