About Jay
I'm a computer programmer from New Zealand. A year or so ago, I was discussing with my wife the sad state of church libraries - they never had the budget or time put into them to be much good. Wouldn't it be great, we thought, if we could make a library out of all the books which congregation members owned? People would get more up-to-date books at no cost to the church, they would connect and make friends, and no central person would need to put in lots of time to run it.
And so, Unlibrary was born. It is a way for people to catalog their book collection online, then connect with other book lovers to share books. It is currently being used by groups of friends, schools, churches, offices, and towns, in countries from Canada to Singapore to Zambia.
Getting people meeting and talking about books means they are do more reading, as well as being introduced to a wider range of books and authors. And the whole system is free!
