Lynda Wurster Deniger of Abita Springs, LA, children’s book author and storyteller, has been entertaining audiences since she was three. The multi-talented writer and singer brings to life many Louisiana traditions in her first children’s book, “Salty Seas and His Heroic Friends.”

The idea for Salty Seas was conceived more than 20 years ago by Deniger as she watched shrimp boats trawling near the shoreline of Grand Isle, Louisiana. Over the years Deniger sought counsel from local book authors about her story. Although their response was positive, Deniger never felt confident enough to pursue publication.

In the fall of 2008, feeling an urgency to press through her doubts and fears, Deniger concluded that self-publishing might be the right vehicle for her and incorporated HIS Publishing Company.

“With a background in advertising, public relations, sales and marketing, I believed I had the skills to achieve success with Salty Seas. I worked as an account exec for WTIX radio in 1976, selling advertising which is much like selling air. If I could do that, it shouldn’t be too hard to promote a beautifully illustrated children’s book with a delightful story about our way of life in Louisiana,” said Deniger.

“I’m not sure how the story jelled in my mind. I just choose to believe it was God-inspired,” she said.

A freelance writer for the St. Tammany Times Picayune for more than seven years, Deniger founded the Southern Christian Writer’s Guild in 1997 with other freelance writers in her area. She served as managing editor for numerous church publications and was a ghostwriter for pastors and ministers.

“Up until the seventh grade I didn’t like to read, but a patient, inspiring teacher changed all that. Today I not only love to read but hope to instill the same love for reading in children through my children’s book series,” Deniger said.
