Here's an idea that keeps me writing. Think of a character - it doesn't matter who, it could be someone you know or not - and then put them in an uncomfortable situation. How can you make that situation worse for them? Make it worse. Then make it worse again. When you think you are the meanest writer on the face of the earth, make it worse one more time, and then help them figure a way out of the problem. It works every time for me, and lots of stories have blossomed from this technique. I'd love to see what you come up with!
