About Ruth
I teach children's and young adult literature courses in the Master of Library Science program at East Carolina University in Greenville, NC. The really cool part about this MLS is that is taught totally online. We use Blackboard to deliver our courses as well as other interactive software to ensure students with various learning styles enjoy the coursework. Anyone interested in our MLS can go to the department's website: http://www.ecu.edu/educ/libs/
Even though I am an Associate Professor at a university in North Carolina, I live in Lexington, KY. I am an active participant in faculty and other types of meetings via the Polycom system that is installed in conference and classrooms in our College of Education building. DE is wonderful. I can be anywhere in the world and as long as I have an Internet connection I can teach as well as communicate with my students. We even chat with children's and YA authors in the Blackboard Chat room.
I have kept a blog about my life and books since 2002. I started it at the request of my University of Houston-Clear Lake students when they heard I was moving to the U.S. Virgin Islands. They wanted to keep up with what I am reading as my students often use my blog as a collection development tool. I am the MadChatter - at http//madchatterya.blogspot.com
I have also written three professional books on booktalking and lots of articles and reviews, especially for VOYA and Library Media Connection.
