About Margaret (Maggie)
(Artist’s Statement)
Art has been an interest of mine from the time I was a small child, and I have worked with many types of media, to include: pencil, pen and ink, watercolor, oils, an acrylic airbrush. Although I have an art degree with a teaching certificate from Ohio, I was never in the position to use it; and went into commercial graphics as a source of income. After being in the field for some twenty years, I am strongly drawn back to my original passion for art as a means of personal expression; and at this time in my life, I am in the position to pursue that ideal.
My art style is strongly influenced by the rich colors and fresh brushwork of the Impressionists; and by the sinuous line work and colors of Art Nouveaux artists like Alphonse Mucha and Maxfield Parrish. I enjoy illustrating many subjects, especially the figure and fantasy themes.
Currently, I am working with brush/pen and ink drawings which I have reproduced into additional copies. With this method, I am able to produce individually watercolored versions of the same piece to experiment with varying color schemes so that each one is a unique work of art. I also work in acrylic on canvas, and artwork for the print media. I have one children’s book illustration project published, and am pursuing work in that direction as well.
