I was born in Vancouver, B.C.,Canada and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. I studied art at the College of San Mateo and Graphic Design at the Maryland Institute, College of Art in Baltimore.Since 1975 I've has enjoyed painting exotic flora and fauna in oils, acrylics and gouache. I've become widely known for my colorful, contemporary style of painting. My original paintings have been reproduced on greeting cards jig-saw puzzles, blankets, ornaments, school supplies, mouse mats, calendars, personal checks, and many other licensed items and it's been used to raise funds for the San Francisco Zoo, the World Wildlife Fund, the Kenya Wildlife Foundation, the International Snow Leopard Trust, the San Francisco Symphony (Deck the Halls), Pediatric Cancer Research, and CRES (Center for Reproduction of Endangered Species) at the San Diego Zoo among many other organizations. My works are included in many collections including those of tennis star Martina Navratilova and opera singer, Marilyn Horne. I was also commissioned to create two large paintings for the lobby of the Mirage Casino in Las Vegas!In 1990 I was greatly influenced by a photographic safari to Africa. While capturing the wondrous beauty I observed through my camera lens, I decided that in future paintings I would try to communicate a sense of excitement, curiosity and adventure while also educating. I chose children's book illustrating as a way to help teach future generations about the wonders of our planet. I've had the privilege of working with many famous children's authors, including Jane Yolen, Jean Marzollo and Kay Winters. I've been fortunate to receive immensely positive reviews and many have received national awards. I live with my husband, Peter. We are very happy "empty nesters" with 6 kids who have "flown the coop"! In January we are anticipating the birth of our first grandchild!I am currently working on a book for Sleeping Bear Press. It will be published in 2009...and it's my favorite book so far!!!Recently I opened two different "web stores"...one is at CafePress and the other is at Zazzle. Both of these stores offer a large array of giftware and clothing items with my paintings on them.
