Frans grew up in Holland, playing soccer and drawing cartoons on rainy afternoons. His family immigrated to California when he was eleven.
Frans’ visit to the Walt Disney Studio as a teenager fuelled his passion for drawing. In 1981 he graduated from Cal Arts in Southern California, and went to work as an animator at Disney.

Frans has worked on such films as "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?" "The Road to El Dorado," “The Princess and the Frog,” and most recently a Winnie the Pooh feature. He also turned his talents to writing and illustrating. His children’s novel Jimmy Dabble was published in 2001. Fuddles, due in May of this year, is his first picture book.

Frans and his wife, Jennifer, live in Glendale, California, where they take joy in raising their three children Julian, Meg and Mary, plus their pampered cat.
