About Annette
Hi, everyone! Just a few quick words of introduction... I live in Tallahassee, Florida, with my husband, Don Lloyd, and my monkey puppet, Cupcake, whose name I borrowed for my screen name. (Cupcake is a boy, by the way; he gets riled when people think he's a girl.) I was a children's and young adult librarian in Toronto (where I'm from), Miami, and Tallahassee before entering the doctoral program at the College of Information at Florida State University. I earned my PhD in Spring 2009. My dissertation explores the decision-making process by which acquisitions editors select culturally conscious children's books from other countries in other languages to translate into English for the U.S. market. I teach online graduate courses in chldren's and young adult literature. My specialty is international books. I was on the 2007-2008 Mildred L. Batchelder Award Committee, which was a real blast, and am the current chair of the 2010 committee, another wonderful experience! I am also happy to be on the USBBY Outstanding International Books Committee. Our choices are available on the USBBY website and published in the February issue of School Library Journal.
Though I have listed the University of Washington as my employer, I am just teaching one online course a quarter there as adjunct faculty: great fun, but not a permanent job. I am looking for a tenure-track faculty position in Youth Services, Children's Literature, etc. preferably at a library school. Any leads are welcome!
I am thrilled to have found a social networking site so targeted to my interests, and look forward to poking around and meeting old and new friends here.
