About Tonya Holmes
NM, TX and OK have been called home. Born in OK, like a salmon, I have come full circle. Lost history has been my interest, that of the Melungeon shanty boat people, of Native Americans. My novel and sequel are about such. Also addressed is the little known history about the infamous Camp Douglas in Chicago. Wool processing/spinning/designing has also been an interest of mine. In the earlier years while going to the U. of NM I did art things, casting, enameling, painting, jewelry etc. Writing came after all the other things were done. I now paint pictures with words but still use oils occassionally. Some of my works have been placed in churches (3) and one in Asbury Complex in Comanche, OK where the Border Queen Book Festival is held and will be again 3/7/09; am director/coordinator for this, what a blessing and joy it has been.My husband and I live on a lake west of Comanche and have the best of all worlds with swimming pool and wild animals to view. Though Southern Baptists all our lives we are members of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church because of the close proximity where I accompany the pianist by playing the Clavinova.
