About Audrey
Audrey J. Murrell, Ph.D. is Professor within the School of Business at the University of Pittsburgh and the Director of the David Berg Center for Ethics and Leadership. She received a bachelor’s degree from Howard University (magna cum laude) and both master’s and doctorate degrees from the University of Delaware. Dr. Murrell works as a business consultant in the areas of mentoring, diversity, and leadership development publishing over 50 professional articles and four books. Her work has been highlighted by popular media such as the Wall Street Journal, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Atlanta Journal and Constitution, Pittsburgh Business Times, Cleveland Plain Dealer, Black Enterprise, Jet Magazine and Vida Executive (in Brazil).
Dr. Murrell has received numerous recognitions including the SBA Minority Business Champion of the Year, the “Women of Distinction” award from the Girls Scouts of Southwestern Pennsylvania, the Susan B. Anthony “Women of Vision” award from the Women’s Leadership Assembly, the Community Service award from the Pennsylvania Job Corps Association, the Community Champion Award from the United Way of Allegheny County and the Chancellor’s Distinguished Community Service award. She is the author (along with Crosby and Ely) of the book entitled, Mentoring Dilemmas: Developmental Relationships within Multicultural Organizations and the recent book entitled, “Intelligent Mentoring: How IBM Creates Value through People, Knowledge and Relationships” with Forte-Trummel and Bing. Professor Murrell is the co-author of numerous reports analyzing diversity within the region including the status of women in the region report and several benchmarking reports on the status of African Americans within the region. Currently, she is the recipient of a national grant to study minority access to local government contracts in three major U.S. cities funded by the Ford Foundation.
As an ordained elder within the Presbyterian Church USA, Audrey is an active member of Bidwell Church in Pittsburgh, PA. Within her community, she serves as the board chair for Urban Youth Action, Inc. and board secretary for the Northside Christian Health Center. She is also the author of the collection of spiritual poetry entitled, “A Peculiar Treasure” published by Xulon Press and the newly released book entitled “Tested Mortar: How God Uses Trials to Strengthen Us” available from Pneuma Publishing.
