Yvonne Wakim Dennis is the author of several publications including award-winning children's books, A Kid's Guide to Native American History, Children of the USA and Children of Native America Today. She respects the ability of children to understand complex concepts and is vehemently opposed to the current publishing trend of 'dumbing down' to children. The education director of the Children's Cultural Center of Native America, (http://www.childrensmuseum.webs.com/), her goal is to debunk the myths and stereotypes about Indigenous peoples of the Americas and ensure that all children learn the truth about First Nations peoples. Of Cherokee/Sand Hill and Syrian ancestry, Dennis has been a multicultural consultant/educator for many universities/publishers/organizations. Her latest projects include the New York City pages of the Smithsonian NMAI's Indigenous Geography website (tk) and teacher workshops for NMAI and other institutions. Her writing and workshops reflect her stand on the inclusion of every group (essential) and racism/stereotypes (not good for children or other living things). .
