About Laynie
Laynie King was raised in New York, but "got to Texas as quick as I could!” She and her husband are now living in retirement in a secluded corner of the Texas Hill Country. Ms. King has always been creative, whether involved in performance music, needlework, or writing. When seen in public, she is probably either knitting or taking notes. Laynie says, “You never know when a great character is going to walk right past you. And if I don’t write it down immediately, I probably won’t remember the details later!”
In the early 1990s, Ms. King began writing “Moochie Mockingbird” stories for her children and their elementary-school classmates. Many versions later, Laynie's noisy, nosey little hero is out there for the world to meet. These charming fables can be described as Texas "tall tales.” Each story features Texas animals doing extraordinary things. The books are written for first- to third-grade readers; however, younger children enjoy having them read aloud as 'chapter books.’
“All my stories are based in real Texas places with real Texas animals. Even though the story is fanciful, I’ve made sure that the facts are accurate. Some of the original inspiration came from events that happened while vacationing with the kids during their school breaks.”
Right now, Laynie is published on Amazon for Kindle only. She is working with an illustrator now for print books in the near future.
“I have no intention of stopping with one book. In fact, I see a bright future for a series of stories around the entire state of Texas.”
