Kathleen Vyn has been a successful author since the beginning of her writing career. She worked as a full-time reporter for a local newspaper. Her two children’s books, The Prairie Community and Spring in the High Sierras, were published by Julian Messner, a division of Simon & Schuster. She worked as a reporter for a local newspaper writing feature stories and news articles. She entered graduate school with lots of experience as an author and journalist. There she was mentored by Kay Boyle, the novelist and poet.
Her short story won an award for prose from the Illinois Arts Council. Her other short stories were published by literary magazines.
Her journalistic work appeared in the Chicago Tribune, where she worked as columnist for the First Person series. She also wrote stories for Silver Kris, Ranger Rick, CBSHealthwatch.com, SAE Off-Highway Engineering, Marketing News, Sales and Marketing News & Strategies.

Her book Haunted Iowa was published by Trails books in 2008. It has recently been updated and republished.

She has taught at Columbia College, East-West University, as well as teaching writing seminars. Recently she was a judge for an American Society of Journalists and Authors contest for Science and Technology works.
