Born Joanne Louise Shinn in Washington, DC June 28, 1954 to Katherine and Stanley. My interests have always been in the arts (e.g. music, dance, theatre) however, growing up reading was always a challenge. I was able to read but bored to tears with the books that were "required". That is, until I read Old Yeller and Beautiful Joe. Both were about dogs and held my attention to the end. I realized that I had a knack for writing around the 6th grade when I penned my first poem. I've been writing poetry ever since, but, in the last 10 years I have taken up writing stories. "Amy the Bewildered Boxer" is my first published work. I hope you enjoy this story. It has touched the hearts of children and adults, alike.
