Hi All, After teaching for 35 years I have retired. I truly miss my First Graders and am now developing a program with a friend called Character Builders. The purpose of the program is to teach respect, responsibility and good manners to school age children. We have gotten some financial support from a local car dealership and have managed to successfully use our program in an after school program and at a local Boys an Girls Club. Since retiring, evreyone thinks you will have lots of time to write and travel,,,,hmmmmm. For about a year + now, I have been fighting a recurrence of breast cancer. That has interfered with writing and travel plans, howerver, my husband and I just returned from a trip to Italy (5-14-08), so some things are going well. It was our second visit to this amazing country and all the while I kept thinking surely there is a book in me about all this beauty and history.
My husband and I try to cook dinner once a month at the local Ronald McDonald House. Unfortunately, because of my medical treatment, we have not been there for seveveral months. It is one of our favorite things to do and I am looking forward to having that project back on our schedule. I belong to an amazing writing critique group with Sally Hobart Alexander being our mentor. The women in our group are all extremely talented, which gives one lots of incentive to do better and better. I have written one early childhood, two picture books and one early grade novel. I tend to write and rewrite, send out and never hear anything back from editors.It is a little frustrating but I will keep trying. I enjoy the Jacketflap community, even though, I don't 'visit' as often as I would like to.
