Dear Ms Atkinson:
What an extraordinary coincidence, reading that little UP CLOSE article in the Globe last Sunday. as I had determined that I would go to Jabberwocky that morning, while visiting the Farmers' Market at the Tannery, to choose books for my grandchildren for Christmas. Alice and Emma came to the rescue, just-in-time!
I try to buy as many locally-written books as I can as gifts, especially when recommended by Sue Little, even when I have to stretch the "appropriateness" factor a little-bit to fit the recipient. But, in this case, your books sound perfect for granddaughter, Caitlin, who lives in Italy with brother Maxwell and her parents. I am so excited to be able to introduce her to a new author as she is a book collector and prolific reader. She will be nine on her next birthday and it sounds like she would relate to your characters rather well.
One of the books is at Jabberwocky now and the other one has been ordered and should be in by Wednesday/tomorrow. They will be held on the shelf at the back desk in my name 'til I pick them up next Monday (10% senior discount!). Would it be possible to have you autograph them before I send-off the Christmas package late next week? I realize that this may be a bit of an imposition but I live in Newburyport, and could do anything necessary to make it possible, as I think it would be very meaningful to her. I'd be happy to bring them to you or leave them somewhere convenient...I'd offer to purchase them directly from you and come to West Newbury to pick-them-up but I always try to purchase them through my local bookstore to help keep it in business.
Her name is Caitlin Buzzard (for real; can you imagine!?), which is one reason why I think she'd identify with Emma! I'll have to find some other books for Maxwell; he's seven...any suggestions?
Thank you for resolving at-least ONE Christmas-present problem!
