About Paul J
Hello new best friends!
My name is Paul J Warrington, Jr. I invented "Musical Encounters(R) the first music blocks for children using the Kodaly Philosophy of music. My inter-locking, color-coded
blocks were handmade in lots of 45,000.
The blocks bridged the gap from the visual representation of
the staff(Handsigns) to the Staff itself! Now Kodaly used the visual representation (Handsigns, however, he 'borrowed' them from Curwin of England. I had a Melody set, Rhythm Set and G Clef(Staff) set.
In 1982 I wrote: "Guide, Games and Activities for "Musical Encounters(R)". The book. was divided into 45 games for each set set of blocks!
Each was sub-divided into three levels: Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced levels. Next, I again sub-divided them into Reading, Writing, and Listening with the blocks.
I became a Cognitive Behaviorist under R.Ray Battin, clinical neuropsychologist, speech pathologist, audiologist, who today at 83 is still practicing in Houston, Texas. Her clinic was the first in the country to be accredited. There I became acquainted with Alvyn Freed's books.
I returned to teaching and used Mr. Freeds T.A. for Tots and Kids as part of my classroom "rules and "visits" with guardians, grandparents, aunties, mothers and fathers.
In "visiting with parents" about their child's behavior. I always said, 'You know I love your child dearly, he/she has such a smile and such a laugh, but today I need to visit with you about some behavior I just don't like because I know somethings wrong or maybe I need to pay more attention to your child. How can we work together during this visit?
Then I'd bring up Alvyn Freed;s books and my own variations.
R.Ray Battin,PHD coined the term "The Dysynchronous Child" in Argentina in 1974 at the Intl. Learning Disabilities Conf. However, we preferred to use the phrase"learning differences! Now this I discovered as Ray took me on a "trip of guided exploration and discovery".
I'm now consulting with parents and even stopping children in the grocery store, the bookstore, etc. about, "Who here is using their "Bossy Me?" the parents are mystified. And the affect is immediate. I now call myself "The Child Whisperer"--Ha! Now you've heard to much about me, but I do have a new book. and a publisher, but I am very, very, careful and want every detail just right! Ray taught me that the road of perfectionism is really a destination;and rather, the road to excellence is one of risk-taking, maybe taking a different exit and then getting back on the journey and/or even taking a rest-stop here and there. BUT THE JOURNEY IS ENJOYABLE!
MY VERY, VERY BEST,
PJWj
P.S. Mr. Freed you are blessed and fill my heart! Through you I hope I have had imput and, therefore, an impact on many, many children, students, teachers and parents!
So ,I leave you all and may God Bless you on our journeys together! Drop me a line, an anecdote, a poem, or just say, Hey, "Mr. W". AND, THERE YOU HAVE IT!
